GEORGE KIRKHAM HOME IN LEHI

Posted by Carolyn Christensen, great granddaughter of George Kirkham.

Shown here are two different pictures of the George Kirkham home in Lehi.  I am not aware if it still stands, and where it might be in Lehi.
DOES ANYONE KNOW?
Also, there are several individuals on the top picture.
DOES ANYONE KNOW
who these individuals are.  As you can see, on the second picture, some of the individuals have been identified.  Also, I am assuming George built this home.

MONROE SUGAR FACTORY

Posted by Carolyn Christensen, grand daughter of Lott Kirkham.
Some years ago, my Mother, Doris Kirkham Johnson, my sister Maureen Johnson Gordon, and my brother Dale Maurice Johnson traveled through Southern Utah.  One stop was at the Monroe Sugar Factory where Lott Kirkham once worked.  This is a picture of what remains.  Also, there is a nearby building connected with the Sugar Factory that is now run as a home for young men.  In that home are still pictures of the old sugar factory, and the processing that went on in that factory.

TIE CLASP OF LOT KIRKHAM

Posted by Carolyn Christensen, daughter of Doris Johnson, daughter of Lott Kirkham, son of George Kirkham.

This tie clasp belonged to Lott Kirkham, son of George Kirkham.  It is now in the possession of Kathy Kirkham Reed.  Notice the initials on the clasp.

COMMENTS FROM THOMAS KIRKHAM

Comments from Thomas Kirkham, son of Orla and Salome Kirkham, who is the son of Lott Kirkham.  Tom is now a Bishop in Ohio.

My wife, Betty, and I were out driving around Southern Ohio today and just got home and I was looking at this that you sent me about the blog. Thank you for that, I want to tell you that years ago when dad and I drove out to Utah and then up to Idaho we stopped by and saw Bob. That was somewhere around 1984. After we had visited a while I mentioned to Bob that all my life I had heard of the Peach Stone and had never seen it. I said to him, if you have it could I see it and he thought it over for a minute or so and went to get it, then he handed to me a hanky which held it. I looked at it with very tender eyes and cried with tears of love when I saw what was carved into the stone. It was small, about the size of a nickle or jus a bit bigger, and on one side there was a ship's anchor carved into it and the other side was L K for grandpa Kirkham, Lott Kirkham.  I too wish I had a picture of it or at least a drawing of it to show my daughter Mandy. She would love to see what it looks like. She, like some of us Kirkham family members have a soft heart for things like this.

ENGLAND HOME OF GEORGE WILLIAM AND MARY ANN ASTINGTON KIRKHAM

This is a picture of the home in England in which George William Kirkham and Mary Ann Astington Kirkham lived at the time they came to America.  THeir four sons, James, George, Joseph and Hyrum would have lived here, as well as Thomas, who is burried in England.  They lived in the half of the taller section in front of which are the buggies and the dark window.  This structure was photographed by Mark Kirkham, (now living in the avenues) in 1964, a year before it was destroyed to make
way for new buildings.

This is the back of the building.  The dark windows indicated th half in which they lived.  Notice the chimneys for each house.

I have been in a home like this in England.  The front door enters into a hall which also contains the stairs that go to the other two floors.  The rooms (probably 2 per floor) open off the hall that runs to the back of the home.

Mark Kirkham took this picture of the end of the home where it was being torn down.  (He got these pictures just in time.)  You can see the buggies on the sidewalk in front of the building.  This also shows how small the rooms were, and the fireplace.
